The Southern African Young Diplomats (SAYD), attended to an engaging consular visit to the Embassy of Nicaragua in Harare, graciously hosted by Her Excellency Ambassador Nadeska Cuthbert. From the moment the diplomats stepped through the Embassy gates, Ambassador Nadeska Cuthbert’s warmth and genuine enthusiasm for dialogue embodied the truest essence of diplomacy and mentorship toward aspiring diplomats.
Within the Embassy’s walls the delegation encountered a a visual display showcasing Nicaragua’s historical, cultural, and social heritage. The exhibit highlighted moments such as the revolutionary National historical literacy , Cultural diversity and a collection of sentimental Art that highlights the essence of the societies in Nicaragua. Her Excellency also highlighted Nicaragua’s advancement into implementing a broad teaching strategy to enhance curriculum with culture, identity, arts, technology, and environmental education hence elevating the ideology of embracing and conserving indigenous communities.
These initiatives mirror Zimbabwe’s own educational ambitions investing in youth, fostering inclusive learning environments, and empowering communities through skills development and preservation of cultural identity.
The aspiring diplomats reflected on the similarities between Zimbabwe and Nicaragua where both nations deeply value their cultural diversity and strive to cultivate national pride through inclusive education, community engagement, and artistic tradition. These shared principles pave the way for future collaboration. Imagine joint youth workshops, educator exchanges, or cultural showcases bridging continents through shared heritage.
Ambassador Cuthbert extended a heartfelt and open reception, responding attentively to every inquiry. The diplomats experienced firsthand how inclusive diplomacy can create intellectual curiosity among emerging leaders, fostering mutual understanding across continents.
As the visit concluded, it became clear that Nicaragua far more than a distant nation, has become a symbolic home for SAYD. The Embassy experience reaffirmed the shared aspirations for youth empowerment, educational equity, and identity affirmation. Today, Nicaragua stands not only as a beacon of hope but also as a motivating partner in the journey toward fostering positive change.
